PRODUCT FAQ

Why is it sour?

The malic acid gives it a tart taste. Mix it into juice if you prefer.

Can I combine it with beta-alanine?

Yes, they are often taken together.

About this product

Citrulline Malate 2:1 Powder 250 g — full description

Citrulline malate 2:1 powder pairs L-citrulline with DL-malic acid in a two-to-one ratio, 6 g per serving. 250 g unflavoured, about 40 servings.

What citrulline does

Citrulline is a non-protein amino acid and, counterintuitively, the better way to raise blood arginine. Oral arginine is largely broken down by arginase in the gut and liver before it reaches circulation; citrulline bypasses that entirely, is taken up by the kidneys and converted to arginine there. Arginine is the substrate for nitric oxide synthase, and nitric oxide is the signal that relaxes vascular smooth muscle. Citrulline is also part of the urea cycle, the route by which the body clears ammonia produced during intense effort.

Why malate, and why 2:1

Malic acid is an intermediate of the citric acid cycle, included both as a stabiliser and because the combination is what the training research used. In a 2:1 ratio, a 6 g serving provides roughly 4 g of citrulline and 2 g of malate — which is why the dose looks larger than for pure citrulline. Check the ratio when comparing products: 1:1 blends contain less citrulline per gram.

How to use the powder

Mix 6 g with water and drink it 30–60 minutes before training — unlike beta-alanine, this one is taken acutely rather than loaded over weeks. The powder is unflavoured and tart from the malic acid. It combines without interaction with beta-alanine, BCAA and caffeine, which is the usual pre-workout stack.

No authorised EU health claim exists for citrulline, and none is made here — the description above is the mechanism, not a promise of a result.

What is in a serving

  • Citrulline malate 2:1 — 6 g (about 4 g L-citrulline, 2 g DL-malic acid)
  • One serving 30–60 minutes before training
  • 250 g — about 40 servings

Questions people ask

Citrulline or arginine?

Citrulline raises blood arginine more effectively than arginine taken orally, because it escapes first-pass breakdown.

Does it need loading?

No. Take it before a session, on training days only if you prefer.

Can I stack it with beta-alanine?

Yes — different mechanisms, no overlap. Both are in amino acids.

Good to know. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Food supplements should not replace a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Talk to your doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or have a medical condition. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
