PRODUCT FAQ

Why between meals?

Amino acids taken alone are not competing with protein from food.

Is it suitable for vegans?

Yes.

About this product

L-Lysine 1000 mg Tablets — full description

L-lysine 1000 mg tablets provide one gram of the essential amino acid L-lysine per tablet. 90 tablets, a three-month supply.

What lysine is

Lysine is one of the nine essential amino acids — the body cannot synthesise it. Two roles stand out. It is a building block of collagen: the hydroxylysine residues that cross-link collagen fibres start as lysine, with vitamin C as the cofactor for the conversion. And it is one of the two precursors, with methionine, that the body uses to make carnitine, the carrier that moves fatty acids into mitochondria.

Who is most likely to be short

Lysine is the limiting amino acid in cereal protein — wheat, rice, maize are all low in it — while legumes are relatively rich. A diet built mainly on grains, with few legumes, dairy, eggs, fish or meat, is where intake falls short first. That makes plant-based and cereal-heavy diets the usual reason to supplement it, rather than training.

Lysine with vitamin C and collagen

Collagen synthesis needs lysine as material and vitamin C as the cofactor that hydroxylates it, so the two belong together: vitamin C 500 mg is the pairing. Collagen peptides supply the same amino acids in peptide form, already assembled. If carnitine is what you are after, taking it directly is more efficient than building it — see L-carnitine tartrate.

How to take L-lysine

One tablet a day with water, between meals. Free amino acids are absorbed better away from a protein-containing meal, where they would compete with dietary amino acids for the same transporters. Lysine and arginine use the same transport route, so there is no point taking them together.

What is in each tablet

  • L-lysine (as L-lysine HCl) — 1000 mg
  • One tablet a day, between meals
  • 90 tablets — a three-month supply

Questions people ask

Is one gram a day enough?

It is the standard single-amino-acid supplement dose, intended as a top-up to dietary protein rather than a replacement for it.

With or without food?

Between meals, for absorption. With food is not harmful, just less efficient.

Lysine or a complete blend?

If protein intake is low overall, the complete EAA blend is the better buy. Single amino acids are for a specific gap. See all amino acids.

Good to know. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Food supplements should not replace a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Talk to your doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or have a medical condition. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
