EAA essential amino acids powder contains all nine amino acids the body cannot make for itself, at 10 g per serving. 250 g unflavoured, 25 servings.
What makes an amino acid essential
Of the twenty amino acids used to build human protein, eleven can be synthesised from other molecules. The remaining nine — leucine, isoleucine, valine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and histidine — cannot, and must come from the diet. Protein synthesis works to the limiting amino acid: if one of the nine is short, the whole process is capped by it, regardless of how much of the others is available. That is the argument for a complete blend rather than a partial one.
EAA or BCAA
The branched-chain amino acids are three of these nine. Leucine signals the start of protein synthesis, but a signal without the other eight substrates cannot build anything. EAA powder provides the signal and the material; BCAA 2:1:1 powder is the cheaper, narrower option for people whose protein intake is already high. If you train fasted or eat a modest amount of protein, EAA is the one that makes the difference.
Who it suits
Plant-based diets, where individual essential amino acids — lysine in cereals, methionine in legumes — are the limiting factor rather than total protein. Older adults, whose requirement per kilo is higher. Anyone in a calorie deficit, where protein intake tends to fall with everything else. And fasted morning training, where there are no amino acids circulating from a recent meal.
How to use the powder
Mix 10 g with 300–400 ml of water and drink it around training or between meals. It is unflavoured and the taste is frankly bitter — essential amino acids are like that — so juice or a flavoured drink makes it easier. One serving a day is the intended dose. L-glutamine and collagen peptides are different tools: glutamine is conditionally essential, and collagen is deliberately incomplete as a protein, lacking tryptophan.
What is in a serving
- All nine essential amino acids — 10 g total per serving
- Unflavoured powder, no sweeteners
- 250 g — 25 servings
Questions people ask
Is EAA a replacement for protein powder?
No. Whey or a plant blend gives you protein by the gram; EAA is a concentrated amino acid dose for specific windows.
Can I take it every day?
Yes, one serving a day, training or not.
Why does it taste bitter?
Free amino acids taste that way, particularly the branched-chain ones. Mixing with juice is the usual fix. See all amino acids.
Good to know. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Food supplements should not replace a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Talk to your doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or have a medical condition. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
