PRODUCT FAQ

Can I take two a day?

Stick to the recommended dose unless advised otherwise. High doses of vitamin C can upset the stomach.

Does it go with iron?

Yes, vitamin C increases iron absorption, so they are often taken together.

About this product

Vitamin C 500 mg Capsules — full description

Vitamin C 500 mg capsules provide ascorbic acid at a dose well above the daily requirement, in a capsule you take once a day. 120 capsules per bottle — a four-month supply.

What vitamin C does in the body

Vitamin C is water-soluble and is not stored, so it has to come from the diet every day. It contributes to the normal function of the immune system, to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin, bones, cartilage, gums and blood vessels, to the protection of cells from oxidative stress, to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, and to normal energy-yielding metabolism. It also increases iron absorption — the one effect that makes it useful as a partner to other supplements rather than on its own.

Why 500 mg and not 80 mg

The EU reference intake is 80 mg, which is the amount that prevents deficiency. 500 mg is the dose used in most studies on immune function and oxidative stress; absorption efficiency falls as the dose rises, so very large single doses mostly end up in urine. 500 mg once a day is a practical middle ground.

Vitamin C with iron and collagen

Ascorbic acid reduces dietary iron to the form the gut absorbs more readily, which is why it is taken together with Iron Bisglycinate + Folic Acid, especially on a plant-based diet. For skin and joints it works in the same pathway as collagen peptides: collagen cannot be built without vitamin C as a cofactor. Zinc is the other nutrient with an authorised immune-function claim.

How to take vitamin C 500 mg capsules

One capsule a day with water, preferably with a meal — a large dose on an empty stomach can feel acidic. If you are taking it for iron absorption, take it with the iron supplement rather than at a different time of day.

What is in each capsule

  • Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) — 500 mg, 625% NRV
  • One capsule a day, with food
  • 120 capsules — a four-month supply

Questions people ask

Can I take 500 mg every day long term?

Yes. Vitamin C is water-soluble and the excess is excreted; intakes around 500–1000 mg a day are well tolerated by most adults.

Does it upset the stomach?

Ascorbic acid can, on an empty stomach. Taking the capsule with food solves it for most people.

Vitamin C or a multivitamin?

A daily multivitamin covers the reference intake across the board; a separate 500 mg capsule is for when you want a specific, higher dose of vitamin C.

Good to know. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Food supplements should not replace a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Talk to your doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or have a medical condition. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
