Coenzyme Q10 100 mg softgels contain ubiquinone suspended in oil — the format that matters for a fat-soluble molecule this large. One softgel a day, 60 softgels, a two-month supply.
What coenzyme Q10 does
CoQ10 sits in the inner mitochondrial membrane and carries electrons between complexes I/II and complex III of the respiratory chain. Without it, oxidative phosphorylation stops — which is why it is concentrated in the tissues with the highest energy turnover: heart, kidney, liver and skeletal muscle. In its reduced form it also acts as a lipid-soluble antioxidant within membranes, where it regenerates vitamin E.
Why a softgel in oil
CoQ10 is a large, highly lipophilic molecule and crystalline powder in a hard capsule is absorbed poorly. Dissolved or dispersed in oil, absorption is substantially better, and taking it with a meal containing fat improves it further. That is the whole reason this product is a softgel rather than a tablet.
Who takes it
Endogenous synthesis declines with age, and tissue levels fall. The other well-known case is statin therapy: statins inhibit HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme upstream of both cholesterol and CoQ10 synthesis, so they lower circulating CoQ10 as a side effect — if you take a statin, discuss CoQ10 with your doctor rather than deciding alone. No authorised EU health claim exists for coenzyme Q10, and none is made here.
How to take it
One softgel a day with a meal that contains some fat. Morning or midday suits most people. Levels in blood rise over a couple of weeks rather than immediately. L-carnitine tartrate works in the same mitochondrial pathway from the fuel-transport side, and vitamin E is the antioxidant CoQ10 regenerates in membranes. If you take anticoagulants, mention CoQ10 to your doctor — it is structurally related to vitamin K.
What is in each softgel
- Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) — 100 mg, in oil
- One softgel a day, with a fat-containing meal
- 60 softgels — a two-month supply
Questions people ask
Ubiquinone or ubiquinol?
Ubiquinol is the reduced form and more expensive; the body interconverts the two. Ubiquinone in oil, taken with food, is the well-established option.
Can I take it with a statin?
Many people do, but raise it with the doctor who prescribed the statin first.
Morning or evening?
Either, with food. Full range in supplements.
Good to know. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Food supplements should not replace a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Talk to your doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or have a medical condition. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
