Zinc 15 mg tablets provide 15 mg of elemental zinc as zinc citrate, one tablet a day. 90 tablets, a three-month supply.
What zinc does in the body
Zinc sits in the active site of several hundred enzymes and in the zinc-finger proteins that read DNA, so it is involved wherever cells divide quickly — immune tissue, skin, hair follicles, gut lining. Zinc contributes to the normal function of the immune system, to the maintenance of normal skin, hair and nails, to normal DNA synthesis and protein synthesis, to normal cognitive function, to normal fertility and reproduction, to the maintenance of normal testosterone levels in the blood, to normal vision, to normal acid-base metabolism and to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
Why zinc citrate
Zinc has to be bound to something, and the carrier decides absorption. Zinc citrate is absorbed about as well as the gluconate and picolinate forms and markedly better than zinc oxide, which needs stomach acid to dissolve. 15 mg a day is a maintenance dose: enough to cover a dietary shortfall, far from the therapeutic 40 mg doses used short term.
Who tends to run low
Zinc is concentrated in meat, shellfish and cheese, so plant-based diets are the first case — and phytates in wholegrains and legumes bind zinc and reduce how much is absorbed, which raises the requirement further. Heavy sweating, alcohol and long-term gut problems also deplete it. A reduced sense of taste or smell, slow-healing skin and frequent infections are the usual signs.
How to take zinc 15 mg
One tablet a day with a meal. Zinc on an empty stomach causes nausea in a lot of people, and food solves it. Keep it an hour away from iron, calcium and high-dose magnesium — they share transporters in the small intestine.
Watch the copper. Long-term intake above 25 mg of zinc a day reduces copper absorption, so check anything else you take for zinc content: a daily multivitamin and zinc + magnesium + B6 both contain it, and the totals add up.
What is in each tablet

- 90 tablets — a three-month supply
Questions people ask
Zinc with vitamin C?
A common pairing: both carry authorised immune-function claims and they do not compete for absorption. See vitamin C 500 mg.
Can I take it on an empty stomach?
Better not — nausea is the usual result. With a meal it is well tolerated.
How long can I take it for?
15 mg a day is suitable for continuous use. Short high-dose courses are a different matter and should be time-limited. Full range in minerals.
Good to know. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Food supplements should not replace a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Talk to your doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or have a medical condition. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
