PRODUCT FAQ

Citrate or bisglycinate?

Citrate is a good everyday option. Bisglycinate is gentler on the stomach.

Can it upset my stomach?

Higher doses can have a mild laxative effect. Take it with food.

About this product

Magnesium Citrate 200 mg Tablets — full description

Magnesium citrate 200 mg tablets provide 200 mg of elemental magnesium — 53% of the reference intake — in one tablet a day. 90 tablets, a three-month supply.

What magnesium does in the body

Every reaction that uses ATP needs magnesium bound to it, which is why a shortfall shows up as tiredness and cramp rather than as one specific symptom. Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue, to normal energy-yielding metabolism, to normal muscle function, to the normal functioning of the nervous system, to normal protein synthesis, to electrolyte balance, to normal psychological function and to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth.

Why citrate

Magnesium citrate is the mineral bound to citric acid, the same molecule that carries it through the citric acid cycle. It is water-soluble and well absorbed — considerably better than magnesium oxide — and it holds more elemental magnesium per tablet than a chelate, which is how a single tablet reaches 200 mg. The trade-off is a mild osmotic effect in the bowel: at higher doses citrate loosens stools, which some people want and others do not.

Who it suits

Anyone who wants a solid daily dose in one tablet, people who train and sweat heavily, and those whose diet is short on wholegrains, nuts and greens. If digestion is sensitive or the dose is for the evening, magnesium bisglycinate is the gentler option. For a combined tablet at a lower magnesium dose, see zinc + magnesium + B6; vitamin B6 improves how much magnesium gets into cells.

How to take magnesium citrate

One tablet a day with a meal. If you are also taking calcium, iron or zinc, leave an hour between them — divalent minerals compete for absorption. Magnesium is required to activate vitamin D, so it pairs naturally with vitamin D3.

What is in each tablet

  • Magnesium (as magnesium citrate) — 200 mg elemental, 53% NRV
  • One tablet a day, with food
  • 90 tablets — a three-month supply

Questions people ask

Does it have a laxative effect?

At 200 mg a day, usually not. Higher doses of citrate can loosen stools; splitting the tablet across the day helps.

Can I take it long term?

Yes. The EU guidance level for supplemental magnesium is 250 mg a day, and this tablet stays below it.

Which form should I pick?

Citrate for dose, bisglycinate for comfort. Both are in minerals.

Good to know. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Food supplements should not replace a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Talk to your doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or have a medical condition. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
