Reishi capsules (Ganoderma lucidum) contain 600 mg of fruiting-body extract per capsule in an HPMC shell. Two capsules a day; 60 capsules make a 30-day jar.
What reishi is
Ganoderma lucidum is a bracket fungus with a glossy, lacquered, red-brown cap. It is called lingzhi in Chinese and reishi in Japanese, and it has been used in East Asian herbal practice for well over a thousand years, so it is among the most traditional of all mushrooms. The fruiting body is hard and woody, not a food mushroom, which is why it has always been simmered into a decoction or extracted rather than cooked and eaten.
Triterpenes and beta-glucans
Two groups of compounds define reishi. The triterpenes, called ganoderic acids, are fat-soluble and bitter, and are responsible for the strong flavour of a reishi tea. The beta-glucans are polysaccharides from the cell wall, and they dissolve in hot water. An extract of the fruiting body keeps both groups in one capsule, and the capsule keeps the bitterness out of your mouth. We make no statement about what either group does in the body.
What the law lets us say
Health claims for mushrooms are not authorised in the EU, so we make none: not for sleep, not for stress, not for the immune system. Talk to a doctor before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, take anticoagulants or antiplatelet medication, medication for blood pressure, or immunosuppressants, or have an autoimmune condition. Stop two weeks before planned surgery. Occasional digestive upset has been reported with reishi, and taking it with food helps.
How to take it
Two capsules a day with food and water. Many people keep reishi for the evening meal, and keep the morning for cordyceps or lion’s mane; this is a habit, not a medical recommendation, and lunch works equally well. A jar covers 30 days. If you prefer a liquid, the reishi double extract comes from the same fruiting bodies. Reishi is also one of the adaptogen-style botanicals taken in courses, like ashwagandha, and the rest of the range is in mushrooms.

Questions people ask
Is reishi a sedative?
It is a food supplement, not a medicine, and we make no claim about sleep or relaxation. Whether you take it in the morning or the evening is up to you.
Will it taste bitter?
The capsule shell hides the taste. Take it with water and food; opening a capsule would let the bitterness out, so we advise swallowing them whole.
Why fruiting bodies rather than mycelium?
Because the fruiting body is the part with the triterpenes and beta-glucans reishi is known for. We do not use mycelium grown on grain, which is mostly starch. Our reishi is grown, dried and milled on our own farm.
Good to know. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Food supplements should not replace a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Talk to your doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or have a medical condition. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
