Turkey Tail capsules (Trametes versicolor) contain 500 mg of fruiting-body extract per capsule in an HPMC shell. Two capsules a day; 60 capsules make a 30-day jar, and a course is usually two or three jars.
What turkey tail is
Trametes versicolor, also filed as Coriolus versicolor, is one of the commonest woodland fungi in Europe. It grows in overlapping, fan-shaped tiers on dead logs, with thin, leathery caps in concentric bands of brown, grey, rust and blue — hence “versicolor” and the turkey comparison. Too tough to eat, it has always been prepared as a decoction. In China it is yun zhi and in Japan kawaratake, and it appears in both traditions. That is history, not a claim about the capsule.
PSK, PSP and what is actually in the extract
Turkey tail is known for its protein-bound polysaccharides, called PSK and PSP, which were first isolated from specific strains and are studied as purified compounds. Our capsule is not a purified compound: it is an extract of the whole fruiting body, which carries beta-glucans and these polysaccharide-peptide complexes along with the rest of the fungus. We do not declare an amount of PSK or PSP, and we make no statement about what they do.
What the law lets us say
No health claims are authorised in the EU for turkey tail or any other mushroom. Speak to a doctor first if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, take immunosuppressants or anticoagulants, have an autoimmune condition or a transplant, or are allergic to mushrooms. If you are under treatment for any serious illness, please do not add this without your doctor’s agreement. Not for children.
How to take it as a course
Two capsules a day with food, at any time of day; there is no morning-or-evening rule. Turkey tail is traditionally taken as a longer course, typically 8 to 12 weeks, so plan on two or three jars. It pairs naturally with the other woodland species in our range: chaga as a liquid, or reishi in capsules. For turkey tail itself in liquid form there is the double extract, and everything else is in mushrooms.
What is in each capsule
- Trametes versicolor fruiting-body extract — 500 mg per capsule
- Shell: HPMC (vegetable cellulose, suitable for vegetarians)
- Two capsules a day, with food
- 60 capsules — a 30-day supply
Questions people ask
Why 500 mg and not 600 mg like the other mushrooms?
Each species has its own extract, and turkey tail is made at 500 mg per capsule; a bigger number is not a better product.
Can I take it for a long time?
We describe courses of two to three months. There is no need to take it continuously; ask your doctor if you plan to take it for longer or alongside medication.
Is it made from mycelium?
No. We do not use mycelium grown on grain, which is largely the starch of the grain. The extract is made from fruiting bodies grown, dried and milled on our own farm.
Good to know. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Food supplements should not replace a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Talk to your doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or have a medical condition. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
