About this product

Multivitamin for Women Capsules — full description

Multivitamin for women is a once-a-day capsule with vitamins A, C, D3, E, K and the B group, plus folic acid, iron, zinc, selenium and iodine. 60 capsules, a two-month supply.

Why iron and folic acid are in a women’s formula

Menstrual blood loss means an ongoing iron requirement that men do not have, and iron is the single most common nutrient shortfall in women of reproductive age. Folate requirements are higher too, and specifically before conception: folic acid supplementation increases maternal folate status, and low maternal folate status is a risk factor for neural tube defects in the developing foetus. Both are in the capsule as standard rather than as an optional extra.

What is inside

The thirteen vitamins at reference-intake level with four minerals alongside. Iron contributes to normal oxygen transport in the body, to normal cognitive function and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Folate contributes to normal blood formation, normal homocysteine metabolism and normal psychological function. Iodine contributes to normal thyroid function and the normal production of thyroid hormones. Zinc and selenium contribute to the protection of cells from oxidative stress and to the normal function of the immune system.

Who it suits

A daily baseline for women eating an ordinary diet, and particularly useful on a vegetarian or vegan diet, where both iron and B12 are harder to get. It is a maintenance dose, not a treatment: diagnosed iron deficiency needs a therapeutic dose, which is what iron bisglycinate + folic acid is for. For hair and nails, biotin 2500 mcg is the targeted option.

How to take it

One capsule a day with breakfast. Food reduces the chance of nausea from iron and improves uptake of the fat-soluble vitamins. Two interactions are worth knowing: tea and coffee inhibit iron absorption, so leave an hour either side, while vitamin C increases it. Calcium competes with iron, so if you take calcium + magnesium + D3, put it at the other end of the day.

Questions people ask

Is the iron dose enough for anaemia?

No. This is a maintenance amount; treating a diagnosed deficiency takes a dedicated iron supplement and a doctor’s follow-up.

Can I take it while pregnant?

Discuss it with your midwife or doctor first — prenatal needs differ, and vitamin A intake in particular has to be controlled during pregnancy.

What is the difference from the men’s formula?

Multivitamin for men has no iron and more emphasis on zinc and selenium. The rest of the range is in vitamins.

Good to know. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Food supplements should not replace a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Talk to your doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or have a medical condition. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
