Lion’s Mane double extract is a liquid extract of Hericium erinaceus fruiting bodies, made in two steps, with hot water and then alcohol; the alcohol is removed afterwards, so the finished extract contains none. A 30 ml bottle holds 30 servings of 1 ml (about 30 drops), so one bottle lasts a month.
What lion’s mane is, and what we do not claim
Hericium erinaceus is a white, shaggy mushroom that grows on hardwood trunks, with long soft spines hanging like a mane. It has long been eaten in East Asia and used in traditional Chinese practice. Its characteristic constituents are beta-glucans, the polysaccharides of the cell wall, and two groups of small molecules named after the species: hericenones and erinacines. No health claims are authorised for lion’s mane in the EU, so we make none.
Why the alcohol step matters here
Beta-glucans dissolve in hot water; hericenones and erinacines do not, and need alcohol. A tea, or an extract made with water alone, carries one group and leaves the other behind; the double extract runs both solvents and combines them. One honest note: hericenones are described mainly in the fruiting body, erinacines chiefly in mycelium, so we quote no content figure for either. What we can say is what the process is built to capture: the water-soluble and alcohol-soluble fractions of the fruiting body.
Fruiting body, not grain-grown mycelium
Much mass-market “mushroom extract” is mycelium grown on grain and harvested with the grain, which makes the powder largely starch. We grow lion’s mane on our own farm, from substrate to drying, and only fruiting bodies go into this bottle.
How to take it
Shake the bottle, add 1 ml to 100–150 ml of water, coffee or a smoothie, or hold it under the tongue for 30 seconds. Lion’s mane is traditionally taken in the first half of the day, alongside cordyceps, with reishi kept for the evening. Prefer capsules? See lion’s mane capsules; all four liquid extracts are in the double extract set, and the rest of the range is under mushrooms.
Keep the bottle in the refrigerator after opening and use it within 30 days. The alcohol used in extraction is removed during production, so the extract is alcohol-free. Do not take it during pregnancy or breastfeeding, give it to children, or use it if you are allergic to mushrooms. Ask your doctor first if you take anticoagulants or immunosuppressants, or have surgery planned.
What is in each bottle
- Hericium erinaceus fruiting-body double extract — extracted with water and alcohol, the alcohol removed during production
- 1 ml (about 30 drops) a day, in a drink or under the tongue
- 30 ml — 30 servings, a one-month supply
Questions people ask
How is it different from lion’s mane powder?
It is more concentrated and needs no brewing, and the alcohol step reaches compounds that a water infusion never dissolves.
Can I add it to coffee?
Yes, that is the most common way. The taste is mild and does not take over the cup.
How long is a course?
One bottle is 30 days, the usual minimum.
Good to know. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Food supplements should not replace a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Talk to your doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or have a medical condition. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
