About this product

Phosphorus 125 mg (Calcium Phosphate) — 90 Tablets — full description

Phosphorus 125 mg tablets provide 125 mg of phosphorus as calcium phosphate, one tablet a day. 90 tablets, a three-month supply.

What phosphorus does in the body

After calcium, phosphorus is the most abundant mineral in the body, and most of it sits in the skeleton and teeth as calcium phosphate crystals. The rest is everywhere else: in the phospholipids that form cell membranes, in DNA and in ATP, the molecule cells use to carry energy. Phosphorus contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism, to normal function of cell membranes, to the maintenance of normal bones and to the maintenance of normal teeth.

Why calcium phosphate

Calcium phosphate is a close relative of the mineral that makes up bone, and it supplies phosphorus together with a share of calcium in a single, stable form. That also matters for balance: calcium and phosphorus work as a pair, and the ratio between them is part of how the body handles both.

Who tends to run low

Few people. Phosphorus is found in dairy, meat, fish, eggs, nuts, legumes and wholegrains, and it is also added to many processed foods, so typical European diets already supply plenty. 125 mg is 18% of the EU reference value of 700 mg, a small top-up rather than a replacement for food. EFSA has not set an upper intake level for phosphorus, but that does not mean more is better, particularly when the kidneys are not working at full capacity.

How to take phosphorus 125 mg

One tablet a day with a meal. If you have kidney disease, talk to your doctor before use, because the kidneys are the main route by which the body removes excess phosphorus.

Phosphorus and calcium are best thought of together. Calcium + Magnesium + D3 covers the calcium side, and vitamin D3 supports how both minerals are absorbed. The wider selection is in minerals.

What is in each tablet

  • Phosphorus (as calcium phosphate) — 125 mg, 18% NRV
  • One tablet a day, with a meal
  • 90 tablets — a three-month supply

Questions people ask

Do I need a phosphorus supplement?

Most people eating a normal mixed diet get enough from food. This tablet is for cases where the diet is restricted or limited, and it is a small amount.

Should I take it with calcium?

The tablet already contains calcium from the calcium phosphate. If you take other calcium products, keep an eye on the total across everything you use.

Can I take it every day?

Yes, at one tablet a day, unless a doctor has told you to limit phosphorus because of a kidney condition.

Good to know. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Food supplements should not replace a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Talk to your doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or have a medical condition. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
